The Queen has remarked that the King is “doing fine,” albeit he is “reluctant to slow down and disinclined to heed advice.”
During a conversation with author Lee Child at the second annual Queen’s Reading Room Festival held at Hampton Court Palace in Surrey, the Queen shared these insights. Child, known for his Jack Reacher crime thriller series, quipped that this behavior is “quite characteristic of a typical husband.”
The King has resumed his public duties despite receiving ongoing treatment for a type of cancer that has not been publicly disclosed. Buckingham Palace clarified that the cancer was identified during a procedure unrelated to his enlarged prostate and confirmed it is not prostate cancer.
At the same festival, British-Australian actress Miriam Margolyes expressed immense delight and considered it a “tremendous honor” to participate, sharing with the Queen her deep admiration for her.
The Queen engaged with several authors at the event, including Sir Ian Rankin and Ann Cleeves.
Recently, the King made his first public address since his diagnosis at a D-Day commemoration in Portsmouth, marking his most prominent appearance to date. Following this, he embarked on his first international journey post-diagnosis to partake in memorial services in Normandy.
Looking ahead, the King is slated to participate in the forthcoming Trooping the Colour ceremony. However, it is anticipated that he will review the troops from a carriage, in contrast to last year’s ceremony where he did so on horseback.
