Actor Jeremy Renner to star in first film since snowplough accident

Jeremy Renner, the 53-year-old American actor, is preparing for his first film role since a severe snowplough accident left him with over 30 broken bones. He’s the newest addition to the cast of Rian Johnson’s “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery”, joining more than a year after his accident.

The incident occurred on New Year’s Day in 2023. Renner was attempting to assist his nephew in freeing his pickup truck from the snow when the six-tonne plough started rolling downhill, as per a police report. He was subsequently airlifted to a hospital and spent some time in intensive care.

In the upcoming murder mystery, set to be released in 2025, Renner will star alongside British actor Daniel Craig, reprising his role as detective Benoit Blanc. Other previously announced cast members include Josh O’Connor from “Challengers” and “The Crown”, Andrew Scott of “Ripley” and “Fleabag”, Kerry Washington from “Scandal”, Glenn Close of “Fatal Attraction”, and Cailee Spaeny from “Priscilla”.

Rian Johnson, the filmmaker, announced last week that the film is on the verge of entering production, although the plot details remain under wraps.

Renner, known for his role as Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was also featured in the drama series “Mayor Of Kingstown” during his recovery period.
